Minister of Energy Vows to Remove Obstacles Facing the Manufacturing of Power Transformers
Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
The Minister of Energy, Al-Moatassem Ibrahim Ahmed, affirmed his commitment to removing all obstacles hindering the resumption of power-transformer manufacturing in Sudan.
This came during his meeting on Wednesday at his office in Port Sudan with a delegation from El-Sewedy Group, led by Chairman of the Board Waleed Al-Deeb.
The meeting discussed resuming operations at the transformer factory in Khartoum. The minister was briefed on the steps the company has begun implementing to revive the factory’s activities, promising to overcome all challenges.
He emphasized the strength and deep historical relations between Sudan and Egypt, highlighting numerous joint activities and cooperation between the two countries—among them the investments of El-Sewedy Group, which carry significant importance given the destruction of most transformers in the country. He urged the company to exert additional efforts to meet Sudan’s needs for transformers.
The minister confirmed that the ministry is currently prioritizing reconstruction, especially after Khartoum State lost more than 14,000 transformers, in addition to losses suffered in other affected states.
For his part, Waleed Al-Deeb stated that the company has already begun rebuilding its factory in Khartoum, and operations are expected to restart soon. The factory will handle the maintenance and manufacturing of distribution transformers. He also affirmed the company’s readiness to build the largest solar-energy and wind-energy stations, in line with the global shift toward renewable energy sources. He listed projects previously implemented by the company—such as lighting 23 villages in El-Daein, and providing solar-powered pivot-irrigation in Shendi for the Al-Qimma Agricultural Project.
It is worth noting that El-Sewedy owns the largest transformer factory in Sudan and operates in partnership with the Sudan Electricity Company.
