The Sudanese Doctors Network reported that nine civilians were killed and 51 others seriously injured on Thursday as because of artillery shelling by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) on the city of Dilling in South Kordofan State.
The shelling targeted the Al-Mak neighborhood in the north, the Al-Turuq area, the Al-Madaris neighborhood, and the main market place.
The Sudanese Doctors Network team reported that the wounded were transferred to health facilities for treatment, reaffirming that the shelling continues on several residential areas, threatening to increase the number of civilian casualties.
The statement strongly condemned the targeting of civilian infrastructure, markets, and civilian gathering places in Dilling, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits targeting civilians and populated areas.
It emphasized that the deliberate shelling of residential neighborhoods and markets constitutes a war crime that exacerbates the suffering of citizens and worsens the humanitarian situation in the city.
The Sudanese Doctors Network held the RSF and the SPLM-N faction led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu fully accountable for these violations. It called on the international community, UN and human rights organizations to take urgent action to stop the deliberate bombing of civilians, and to pressure the militia and movement leaders to deter them and prevent the continuation of these massacres, while working to ensure the protection of civilians.
