MFA: UAE Expels Sudanese Diplomats from Consulate in Dubai, Scrutinized Their Phones and PC

Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
The Sudanese Ministry for Foreign Affairs has revealed that the UAE authorities had issued a decision in recent days expelling most of the staff of the Sudanese consulate in Dubai, providing no official justification.
The Ministry added in a statement issued on Saturday that “the UAE authorities, in a gross and blatant violation of the Vienna Conventions on diplomatic and consular relations, detained the expelled diplomats after they completed all departure procedures at Dubai Airport for eight hours, subjecting them to interrogation and examining their phones and laptops, causing them to miss their flights and forcing them to purchase new tickets.”
The Sudanese Ministry for Foreign Affairs pointed out that this unprecedented incident reflects a severe disregard on the part of the Emirati authorities for their obligations under international law, which necessitates the protection of diplomats and the granting of the necessary immunities and privileges, which are fundamental to diplomatic and consular relations and the guarantees that enable diplomats and consular staff to carry out their duties.
