Libyan Warnings About Haftar’s Forces Involvement in Aggressions against Sudan

Benghazi – Sudanhorizon
A Libyan diplomatic source has described the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the Libyan National Unity Government, led by Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, Wednesday, regarding the attacks by the Rapid Support Forces militia and Khalifa Haftar’s forces and militias from multiple nationalities, on the border triangle between Sudan, Libya, and Egypt, as being ‘’positive and supportive’’ of the legitimate government in Sudan and its national army, and a rejection of negative interventions.
The Libyan diplomatic source has stressed that Libyan people reject the negative interventions of the United Arab Emirates in Sudan and Libya, as well as Khalifa Haftar’s attempts to drag the entire region into a regional conflict.
In a related context, a Sudanese diplomatic source has commended the position of the National Unity Government and its overt rejection of aggression against Sudan and its people, considering the Libyan Foreign Ministry’s statement as a reflection of the position of the Libyan people and the Libyan Presidential Council in supporting the Sudanese people, already manifested in hosting refugees and opening schools and universities, and welcoming Sudanese students and families throughout Libya, following the outbreak of war in Sudan.
A former security advisor to Khalifa Haftar had earlier warned the Libyan forces in eastern Libya, supported by the United Arab Emirates, against what he called the Sudanese incineration belt.
Advisor Mohamed Bouisair confirmed that Haftar’s forces have been involved in supporting Sudan’s Janjaweed since the first days of the war, stressing the need to abandon hostility towards the Sudanese army by infiltrating into Sudanese territory and supporting the Rapid Support Forces militia.
The Libyan security advisor stated that war with the Sudanese army could lead to the loss of Kufra, given that the Sudanese army has defeated the Rapid Support Forces militias in 12 Sudanese states and possesses excellent tactical military capabilities.
Member of the High State Council in Libya, Amna Amter, has on the other hand confirmed in a statement to ‘Sudanhorizon’ that Haftar’s forces and the Rapid Support Forces militias are receiving support from the same state, thus making the matter of the attack unsurprising.
Amter considered any country’s interference in the affairs of another country as a form of aggression, affirming that it poses potential threat to the entire area. The head of Libya’s Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, had mediated for ending the war in Sudan and had received chairman of the Sudanese transitional Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, meeting in Tripoli with the commander of the Rapid Support Forces militias. However, the mediation failed due to the rebellious militia’s refusal to implement the Jeddah Agreement.
The Sudanese Army stated in an official statement on Wednesday that the rebellious Rapid Support Forces, backed by forces loyal to Khalifa Haftar and mercenary troops, attacked the Sudanese forces in the border triangle region with Libya and Egypt with large military forces. The Sudanese Army decided to reposition its troops out of the triangle to enable a response to the aggression.
