IGAD Secretary Appoints Head of Mission to Sudan

The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, has appointed Ms. Rania Mustafa Hassan as the Acting Head of the organization’s mission to the Republic of Sudan. This appointment comes as IGAD continues to re-engage with Sudan and reopen its office in Khartoum.

A tweet on the organization’s X platform stated that this appointment underscores IGAD’s ongoing solidarity with the Sudanese people and its commitment to sustained diplomatic engagement in support of peace and recovery.

Sudan regained its membership in the sub-regional organization last February after a two-year suspension following a disagreement over the organization’s role in resolving the conflict in Sudan.
