Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
The Committee for Inspection and Assessment of the General Authority for Geological Research in Sudan has finalized its report on the damage incurred by the Authority’s headquarters in Khartoum State.
The Authority indicated that the headquarters sustained destruction at the headquarters amounting to approximately 95%, of the building and its contents in addition to loss of most of the technical laboratories and the main library, as well as the destruction of paper and electronic maps.
The Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Ahmed Mudawi Ezz El-Din, said that the report represents what he describes as a ray of light in a time of darkness, but it also showed the resolve to rebuild what has been destroyed.
Mudawi explained that the committee’s work comprised five main tracks, including infrastructure assessment, digital systems inspection, asset inventory, and review of technical and administrative damage.
He emphasized that the Authority is capable of overcoming the effects of the destruction, and that what has been achieved represents a step toward restoring institutional performance despite the challenges.
