High-Level Standards Delegation Participates in ISO Annual Meeting in Paris

A high-level delegation from the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization participated in the annual meeting of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the 48th General Assembly, hosted in the French capital, Paris, from September 28 to October 2, 2026, under the theme: “Building Trust in a Changing World.”

The organization was represented at the meeting by a delegation headed by Director General Rahba Saeed Abdullah. The delegation included the Director of International Relations and a representative of the Director General’s Office. The delegation participated in the meeting’s proceedings and activities alongside representatives of national standards bodies, experts, and decision-makers from around the world.

The ISO annual meeting is considered one of the leading international events in the field of standardization. It brings together the international standardization community to discuss global developments and challenges and examine the role of international standards in promoting international cooperation, supporting responsible innovation, and turning shared challenges into practical and reliable solutions.

The meeting focused on a number of key themes, foremost among them people and the planet, emerging technologies and artificial intelligence, trade and development, sustainability and climate resilience. Discussions also addressed the role of international standards in supporting the safe and responsible use of modern technologies and addressing rapidly evolving global challenges.

In the field of quality management, the importance of the new edition of the ISO 9001:2026 international standard for quality management systems was highlighted, as it strengthens institutions’ ability to address risks and opportunities, support resilience and innovation, and build trust among customers and stakeholders.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the delegation of the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization held a number of bilateral meetings with representatives of Russian standards bodies, the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, and Swedish standards bodies. The meetings discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and exchange expertise.

The delegation also held an expanded meeting with the Secretary-General of ISO, during which the two sides discussed ways to expand and strengthen the organization’s participation in the activities and work of the international organization. This would contribute to strengthening Sudan’s presence within the international standardization system and benefiting from the organization’s various programs and initiatives.

The organization’s participation in the ISO annual meeting reaffirms Sudan’s continued active presence in the international standardization system and its commitment to following global developments in standards, standardization, and metrology. It also reflects the organization’s efforts to strengthen its relations with national standards bodies and international and regional organizations in support of the development of Sudan’s quality infrastructure.
