Health Ministry: Decline in Dengue Fever Cases

Khartoum – Sudanhorizon

The health authorities in Khartoum State on Friday said they reported a decline in dengue fever cases for the third consecutive day in the seven local authorities of Khartoum, according to the daily dengue fever epidemiological status report and the cumulative monitoring of confirmed cases since the outbreak began in the state.

Dr. Mohamed Eltigani, Director General of the Emergency and Epidemic Control Department, attributed the decline in cases to the prompt interventions and significant efforts made at the local level, by the local health system, the malaria control units, the health promotion units, and the environmental health departments, in addition to the efforts undertaken under the supervision and follow-up of Dr. Fath Alrahman Mohamed Amin, the Director General of the Khartoum State Ministry of Health, and at the level of the General Directorate of Emergency and Epidemic Control, the General Directorate of Preventive Medicine, the General Directorate of Health Promotion, the General Directorate of Laboratories and Blood Banks, and the General Directorate of Curative Medicine.

In an address before the Khartoum Health Media Office, Eltigani said that the decline in dengue fever cases for the third consecutive day underscores the need for all partners to further cooperate and coordinate their efforts, and to work even harder on preventive interventions, detecting cases, monitoring them, and providing treatment.

He noted that with these joint efforts, Khartoum Health Authority can announce in the coming days that Khartoum is free of dengue fever, citing as an example the recent announcement that Khartoum is free of cholera after the number of cases dropped to zero.
