HAC: Guterres and Faki’s Participation in UAE-initiated Meeting Scandalous and Shameful

Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
The Sudanese Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) has condemned the meeting held on Friday in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, dealing with the humanitarian issue in Sudan and which was called for, organized and funded by the United Arab Emirates, with the participation and attendance of the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, and the outgoing AU Commission Chairperson, Moussa Faki, along with some neighboring countries.
The Commission has pointed out in a statement signed by HAC Commissioner, Salwa Adam Benya that the participation of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki, in that event, and their involvement in whitewashing the UAE and promoting it as a humanitarian actor, and covering up its role as a partner in the war crime against the Sudanese, is but “a scandalous and shameful position” which directly contributes to encouraging the UAE to continue to aggravating further the humanitarian disaster in Sudan and to arm the militia. It said such platforms and activities through which UAE is trying to whitewash its hands stained with the blood of Sudanese women and men.
The Commission added that the unprecedented humanitarian disaster currently witnessed by Sudan is directly caused by the war waged by the Rapid Support Forces militia. It held the UAE as directly responsible for fueling the disaster through its continued funding and arming of the militia.
The statement condemned the use of humanitarian relief and the ongoing suffering of the Sudanese due to this war to polish the UAE image and cover up its crimes, and that this represents participation in the continuation of these crimes and legalization of the institutional immunity that the Emirates exploits in violating international law and Security Council resolutions, especially Resolution 2736, which stipulates lifting the siege on Al Fashir and not obstructing the delivery of aid to those in need. The statement added “we clearly affirm that politicizing the humanitarian file and using aid to serve political agendas, which was evident in the presence of certain Sudanese politicians who align with the Rapid Support Forces militia and the UAE, in addition to the participation of organizations that are supposed to be neutral and non-aligned, contributes to complicating the humanitarian situation and turning humanitarian aid into a mere political pressure card in an extremely complex context.”
The Commission expressed its regret for the participation of the Secretary-General of the largest international organization, because this conference has repercussions that require adopting new directions that preserve our national sovereignty and independent decision
Sudan and its people will not accept submission to the agenda of the new occupation and the UAE deception in exchange for humanitarian aid, it stressed, adding that “the basic principles of humanitarian work, represented by neutrality, impartiality, integrity, and independence, will remain the only compass that we adhere to in dealing with any relief efforts in Sudan.”
