Gold Exporters Urge Central Bank Governor to Cooperate for Public Interest

The head of the Gold Exporters’ Chamber, Abdel Moneim al-Siddiq, has called on the Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan to work in a spirit of teamwork and rise above narrow interests in order to serve those engaged in the gold sector.
In a statement issued on Friday, al-Siddiq stressed that the country is going through an exceptionally complex period as its economy suffers from the devastating effects of war. He added that “God, the Compassionate and Merciful, has blessed us with gold to be a remedy for the wounds of our economy.”
He explained: “If we can export every gram of gold produced through official channels, it would be a cure for our ailing economy. We produce about 65 tons of gold, which amounts to more than 7 billion dollars if exported officially. This sum could help heal our deep economic wounds and revive our national economy.”
Al-Siddiq pledged full support for the Central Bank, stating: “We put all our resources and expertise at your disposal without conditions, boasting, or expectations of reward. We will stand with you in a fierce battle against those of weak conscience who profit from gold exports through illegal and destructive means.”
He further urged joint efforts to overcome policy shortcomings and potential economic cracks, emphasizing: “We are prepared to forgo all the profits and advantages we gain from gold exports if such policies would mend the fractures of Sudan’s economy and bring happiness to the Sudanese people.”
Finally, the Gold Exporters’ Chamber chief appealed to the Prime Minister to establish a fact-finding committee to ensure that all gold export revenues return to the state treasury.
