Geology Authority Reveals Intense Efforts to Restore Activity of its State Offices

Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon

The Director General of the General Authority for Geological Research, Advisor Ahmed Haroun, acknowledged that more than 10 state offices have been out of service due to the war waged against the state by the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia. He noted that only six state offices are currently operating.

The Director General revealed, according to a press release (Tuesday) seen by the Sudanhorizon news website, that the Authority lost a strategic information base related to projects dating back to the 1960s due to sabotage carried out by the militia.

The statement indicated that the Authority is working day and night to restore the activity of its offices in the safe states, emphasizing its ability to effect change in the next phase by forming technical committees to review documents and inventory the remaining machinery, transportation means, and technical equipment for the return to Khartoum.

He revealed a new strategy for the General Authority for Geological Research and the Ministry of Minerals, based on localizing mineral and extractive industries in the country by submitting detailed studies to international companies. These companies will, in turn, bring technology and work to raise the efficiency of the country’s mining sector, which in turn supports the national economy.

He said they have begun reaching out to foreign countries, leveraging the Authority’s relationships with its international counterparts, and inviting scientists, technicians, and investors to develop the industrial minerals sector.

In this regard, the General Authority for Geological Research signed an agreement with the Spanish side, expected to generate an annual financial return of 5 million euros to the public treasury through the establishment of an iodized salt factory on the Red Sea coast, capable of producing 10 tons of salt per hour.
