The branch office of the Geological Research Authority in the Blue Nile region has begun the first steps of the chrome ore exploitation project. This is in implementation of the production projects plan, which aims to exploit and diversify resources, create projects that support the public treasury, and stimulate investment in the states.

The director of the regional office, consultant geologist Al-Hadi Imam Rahma, explained in a press statement that the mission undertaken by his office is an important step in the project, as it aims to search and explore for chrome ore in an open-pit mine in the Torda area of Bau locality. He noted that they are currently taking samples from the open-pit mine and correlating them with the rock composition. Laboratory tests are then conducted, based on which detailed geological studies and economic feasibility studies are being conducted.

The Blue Nile region is considered one of the richest regions in Sudan in minerals, such as gold and chromium, in addition to its fertile agricultural lands.
