General Intelligence Service: We Will Not Allow Any Tampering with Sudan’s Heritage

Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
The Deputy Director General of the Sudanese General Intelligence Service, Lieutenant General Abbas Bakheet, has announced the successful recovery of 570 artifacts looted during the war waged by militias, in addition to thwarting a plot to smuggle a large number of artifacts out of the country.

Abbas affirmed that the Service will remain vigilant and capable of accurately monitoring all attempts at organized crime, indicating that they possess the necessary capabilities to pursue criminals and that there will be no safe haven for anyone who seeks to tamper with Sudan’s heritage and plunder its treasures.

In a statement delivered at the ceremony marking the recovery of looted Sudanese artifacts in Port Sudan on Tuesday, Lieutenant General Abbas stated that the recovery operation was a genuine battle to protect Sudan’s history and national heritage. He noted that it was carried out with high professionalism and responsibility in coordination with relevant authorities, pointing to the scientific and systematic inventory and classification of the recovered pieces.

He emphasized that preserving antiquities is an integral part of national security and national identity.

The Deputy Director of the General Intelligence Service added, “There is full coordination with the judicial authorities and relevant agencies to recover the artifacts through legal frameworks and with regional partners.”

He emphasized that targeting national heritage is no less serious than attacking the country’s territory, and that it will be confronted with full force, decisiveness, and determination, especially since it is a crime targeting Sudan’s identity and the nation’s memory.
