Foreign Minister Confers with Indian Counterpart on Bilateral Relations

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Muhi Al-Din Salem, held talks on Friday with his Indian counterpart, Minister of External Affairs Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, in New Delhi. The discussions focused on bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them.

The Sudan News Agency reported that the Foreign Minister debriefed his Indian counterpart on the latest developments in Sudan. He highlighted the significant progress made by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in the various scenes of operation. He also presented the “Government of Hope” initiative for peace in Sudan, which the Sudanese Prime Minister had presented to the UN Security Council as a roadmap to meet the aspirations of the Sudanese people for peace and an end to militia aggression.

The Sudanese Foreign Minister expressed Sudan’s pride in its historical relations with India and commended India’s supportive stances towards Sudan, the ongoing communication between the two countries, and their coordination in international forums.

He affirmed his aspiration to further develop and enhance relations in a way that serves the interests of both brotherly nations, explaining that the reconstruction phase Sudan is embarking upon creates tremendous opportunities for establishing a comprehensive economic partnership between the two countries.

The Foreign Minister also called for activating the existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms between the two sides, considering them platforms through which relations can be strengthened and developed in various fields. He specifically mentioned the Consultation and Coordination Committee between the two countries’ foreign ministries.

For his part, the Indian Foreign Minister reiterated India’s unwavering support for the sovereignty and unity of Sudan, explaining his country’s readiness to continue providing support to Sudan at the humanitarian, cultural, and other levels.

Minister Jaishankar affirmed the importance of resuming the work of the bilateral cooperation mechanisms, emphasizing the positive role that the political consultation committees between the two countries can play in strengthening bilateral cooperation. He also expressed his hope that the ongoing efforts will lead to a lasting peace that guarantees Sudan’s stability.

It is worth noting that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation arrived in the Indian capital on Thursday to participate in the second session of the Arab-Indian Ministerial Meeting, which is being hosted by New Delhi in coordination with the League of Arab States on Saturday. On the sidelines of the visit, he will also carry out a number of activities, all of which contribute to promoting and developing bilateral relations with the State of India in economic, cultural and technical fields.
