The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said it welcomes the statement issued by the 1293rd meeting of the African Peace and Security Council, chaired by Algeria.
The African Union Peace and Security Council’s statement has reiterated the Council’s strong rejection and condemnation of the establishment of the so-called coalition government by the Rapid Support Forces militia, and rejected any foreign interference in Sudanese affairs that would fuel the conflict.
According to the statement, the Council affirmed its strong commitment to Sudan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national unity, and rejected all attempts aimed at dismantling the Sudanese state or establishing any parallel structures to its legitimate institutions.
A press release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday said that the Sudanese government appreciates the clear principled position contained in the statement of the African Peace and Security Council in support of the transitional government in Sudan, referring to the roadmap announced by the Chairman of the Sovereign Council last February, welcoming the Government of Hope led by Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris, and calling on the international community to support it.
The Sudanese government, according to the press release, has affirmed its full commitment to delivering humanitarian aid to all those in need in the areas affected by the militia rebellion.
In this context, it said, “We welcome the explicit paragraph in which the African Union Peace and Security Council held the terrorist Rapid Support Forces (RSF) responsible for the developments in Al Fashir and some areas in Darfur and Kordofan, and called for the lifting of the siege on Al Fashir to enable humanitarian aid to reach civilians.”
In this regard, the government, the Foreign Ministry’s Press release underlined, called on international organizations operating in Sudan to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians in Al Fashir and other areas affected by the terrorist militia’s war.
The Sudanese government renewed its calls on the international community, through the UN Security Council and regional and international organizations, to condemn the blatant foreign interference in supporting the terrorist militia and to hold the involved countries accountable.
At the same time, it welcomed the PSC’s condemnation of foreign interference and its emphasis on the need to identify those parties through the Sanctions Subcommittee, in coordination with the Committee on Intelligence and Security Services in Africa (CISSA) and the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL), and then recommend measures to be taken by the PSC against them.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the constructive dialogue, positive engagement, and full cooperation with the African Union, as well as the visit of the African Peace and Security Council to Sudan at the earliest opportunity to assess the positive developments in the country and the political transition process.
The release said at the same time, the Ministry underlined that it looked forward to the imminent return of the African Union office to Sudan.
