Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
Sudan’s Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Jibril Ibrahim, has affirmed that the government is making intensive efforts to develop practical solutions to the challenges facing the agricultural sector, as well as to meet the requirements of economic recovery and post-war reconstruction.
The remarks came during a meeting on Monday at the Ministry of Finance headquarters in Khartoum with Nasr El-Din Haj Al-Amin, an expert with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
Ibrahim called on IFAD to mobilize financing through international development and funding institutions to support both the crop and livestock sectors. He also urged assistance in addressing energy-related challenges and diversifying energy sources to reduce production costs, increase output and productivity, expand storage capacity, and improve livelihoods across different segments of society.
The minister emphasized the importance of field visits to agricultural projects in River Nile State and Northern State to enhance productive projects and assess the actual needs of the agricultural sector in those regions.
He further highlighted the government’s continued efforts to strengthen partnerships among government institutions and relevant stakeholders, while improving coordination to remove obstacles that could hinder the implementation of productive projects across the country.
Ibrahim also expressed hope that IFAD would increase its support for Sudan’s industrial sector to boost production, expand export opportunities, and develop value chains. He stressed the importance of practical recommendations from the IFAD mission to relevant authorities in order to secure the support needed for implementing productive projects and advancing the agricultural sector.
For his part, Dr. Nasr El-Din Haj Al-Amin reaffirmed IFAD’s commitment to designing and financing productive and developmental projects and supporting the advancement of Sudan’s agricultural sector. He emphasized the mission’s readiness to cooperate and coordinate efforts aimed at strengthening agriculture and improving Sudan’s economic conditions.
The meeting reviewed avenues for cooperation between the two sides and discussed the possibility of IFAD contributing to development projects, supporting the agricultural sector, facilitating Sudan’s transition toward recovery and reconstruction, and promoting economic development across the country.
