Finance Minister: We Are Now in Complete Harmony With CBS
Port Sudan – Nazik Shamam
The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, stated that the Ministry of Finance is not in competition with the Central Bank of Sudan, as each has its own sphere of operation and work within a defined framework.
In an interview with the “Al-Shabaka” platform, broadcast on its platforms Saturday evening, the Minister emphasized the need for full coordination between his ministry and the Central Bank of Sudan to ensure policy consistency. He explained that fiscal policy influences monetary policy and vice versa, noting that the Ministry of Finance is responsible for managing the country’s macroeconomy, and that there is no room for any party to deviate or adopt policies that deviate from those agreed upon.
The Minister of Finance revealed that there are regular periodic meetings between the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Sudan to continuously coordinate positions, indicating that all policies are adopted by agreement, but that occasional disagreements may arise. He added, “This has happened at one point, but we are now in complete harmony and alignment between the Bank of Sudan and the Ministry of Finance.”
In a related context, the minister acknowledged the erosion of the national currency against foreign currencies, but considered it a natural consequence of the war, which has impacted production and export rates.
The Minister of Finance emphasized that the only solution to the growing gold smuggling is to implement encouraging policies and offer attractive prices for producers and traders.
