Finance Minister Stresses the Need to Address the Demands of Fragile and Conflict-Affected Countries

Sudanese Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr Jibril Ibrahim, emphasized the collective response needed from international financial institutions and development partners to meet the demands of countries suffering from fragility, conflict, and violence.
Speaking at the general session of the Development Committee during the annual IMF and World Bank meetings in Washington, the minister underscored the importance of increasing funding for countries affected by wars and conflicts to address global challenges, particularly climate change, rising poverty rates, and unemployment.
The minister recommended expanding support through the World Bank’s International Development Association (IDA) to achieve sustainable development goals in Africa. He highlighted the need for financing objectives to align with each country’s local priorities, stressing the importance of investing in infrastructure, agriculture, education, and building food security in the region.
