Finance Minister Reaffirms Govt Commitment to Supporting the Health Sector and Free Treatment for Children

Sudan’s Minister of Finance, Dr. Gibril Ibrahim, reaffirmed on Tuesday the government’s commitment to financing the health sector, stressing that healthcare services for citizens remain among the highest priorities in the state budget.
The minister highlighted the government’s continued commitment to providing free medical treatment for children under the age of five in public hospitals, in addition to offering the necessary support for the treatment of chronic diseases across the country.
During a meeting with Minister of Health Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, attended by the undersecretaries and senior officials of both ministries, Dr. Gibril pledged to meet the requirements for early preparedness and response to health emergencies associated with the upcoming rainy season.
He also emphasized his strong interest in addressing the conditions of employees working in Al-Ayloula hospitals across Sudan’s states, recognizing their importance within the healthcare system.
For his part, Health Minister Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim praised the Ministry of Finance for its ongoing support of the health sector and its efforts to create a suitable healthcare environment that encourages citizens to return to states affected by the war.
The minister provided an overview of the current state of health services and the resources required to meet citizens’ needs, improve conditions for healthcare workers and physicians, and support ongoing interventions in war-affected states.
He also revealed that the relevant authorities had officially announced that Sudan is entirely free of Ebola, highlighting the country’s success in preventing the spread of the disease.
In the same meeting, Dr. Mohamed Ali Juma, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, affirmed the ministry’s full commitment to settling all pending financial obligations related to the Ministry of Health that are currently under implementation.
Participants in the meeting also commended the Ministry of Health for its extensive efforts in delivering healthcare services and for its adherence to government procurement and contracting laws and regulations in all of its transactions.
