Exclusive: “Sudanhorizon” Uncovers New Details on Today’s UN Security Council Meeting

Sudanhorizon – Mariam – Exclusive

Sudanhorizon has obtained exclusive information about the anticipated UN Security Council meeting on Sudan, scheduled for today (Monday).

According to informed sources, the Council will receive a report from UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the latest developments in Sudan amidst the ongoing conflict, which has lasted over a year and a half.

The sources confirmed that no resolution on Sudan will be proposed during tomorrow’s session. However, the Security Council is anticipated to consider a draft resolution on Sudan in the coming weeks. This draft will not be presented tomorrow, nor will it call for the deployment of UN forces to protect civilians, contrary to claims promoted by some parties and recommendations from the UN fact-finding mission formed by the Human Rights Council in Geneva, whose mandate was recently renewed on October 9.

Sudanhorizon has learned that Sudan’s permanent mission to the UN will present evidence to the Security Council detailing violations and breaches of international and humanitarian law committed by the RSF in East Al-Gezira villages over recent days.

Notably, the UN Resident Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Clementine Nkweta-Salami, expressed shock in a statement released today (Sunday) regarding the ongoing attacks in Al-Gezira State since last week. She stated that she was deeply disturbed by the recurrence of human rights abuses similar to those seen last year in Darfur, now reappearing in Al-Gezira. Salami condemned horrific crimes such as rape, sexual violence, and mass killings, stressing that such atrocities are unacceptable and must end immediately, with civilians needing protection wherever they are.

The UN official voiced her concerns about reports indicating escalating armed violence in the state, where RSF fighters indiscriminately targeted civilians, resulting in dozens of deaths, while also committing sexual violence against women and girls, looting markets and homes extensively, and burning farms.
