Egyptian-Sudanese Talks in Cairo on Joint Cooperation

Minister of Cabinet Affairs Dr. Lamia Abdel Ghaffar met on Saturday, on the sidelines of the second ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum held in Cairo, with Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdel-Aty.

The meeting discussed developments in Sudan in light of current challenges, and ways to support stability and enhance cooperation and coordination between the two countries.

The Minister affirmed that the Egyptian government’s support for Sudan is considered support for the stability of the region and the Horn of Africa, and they discussed the expected role of Egypt in reconstruction and development.

She referred to the recent meeting between Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and the clear emphasis placed on the fact that Sudan’s unity and stability are a red line that cannot be crossed, and that Sudan’s security is an integral part of Egypt’s national security.

The Foreign Minister reviewed Egypt’s efforts to create the appropriate conditions for reaching a political solution that preserves Sudan’s unity and its national institutions and responds to the aspirations of its people. He pointed to the convening of joint committees, increased electricity interconnection, the development of the Halfa River Port, increased trade exchange, the development of the Oseif Port, and the linking of the Abu Hamad railway-line in Sudan with the Abu Simbel railway-lines in Egypt.

The Egyptian minister also emphasized the importance of following up on ongoing Egyptian efforts and projects in Sudan, within the framework of supporting reconstruction and recovery efforts, and strengthening cooperation in service and humanitarian fields, which contributes to alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people and supporting their resilience.

Abdel-Aty affirmed Egypt’s full support for Sudan in its protracted ordeal, its unwavering commitment to preserving its unity and territorial integrity, supporting its national institutions, and rejecting any attempts to undermine its sovereignty or compromise its internal cohesion. He stressed Egypt’s solidarity with the Sudanese people and its hope for their safe passage through this critical phase
