Member of the Sovereignty Council and Assistant Commander-in-Chief, Ibrahim Jaber Ibrahim, has recommended speeding up the implementation of engineering works related to the maintenance of the Shambat and Halfaya bridges, given the urgent need for their use amid the significant return of citizens to Khartoum State.

During his inspection visit today to the Shambat Bridge, accompanied by Khartoum State Governor Ahmed Othman Hamza, Jaber expressed his hope that Egyptian capabilities and expertise would complement Sudanese engineering efforts in restoring and repairing the bridges, while also increasing their capacity to handle heavier loads in the future.

For his part, the Governor of Khartoum welcomed the arrival of the Egyptian delegation to the capital, noting Egypt’s continued support for Sudan, including hosting large numbers of Sudanese citizens and assisting in rebuilding the country’s infrastructure. He added that the suspension of bridges has been among the most damaging factors for the state, intensifying the suffering of citizens.

The Governor also called for the swift completion of work to rehabilitate the bridges so they can return to service and ease movement between different parts of the state.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Kamal Hussein, head of the Egyptian General Authority for Roads and Bridges delegation, explained that the team conducted a visual inspection today to prepare its report for commencing urgent maintenance. He stated that the goal is to adopt the most immediate engineering solutions to reopen the bridges to traffic as soon as possible, while also completing further studies to extend the lifespan of the bridges in the long term.
