Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The Economic Development Sector of Sudan’s Council of Ministers, during its meeting on Wednesday chaired by Finance Minister Dr. Gibril Ibrahim, recommended the adoption of the Integrated Livestock and Fisheries Production Cities Project in the Gezira Scheme, as well as a program aimed at developing livestock markets and Sudanese exports.
The sector emphasized the importance of the integrated livestock and fisheries cities project, describing it as a national initiative and a strategic transformation capable of driving economic development and growth.
Participants also stressed the need to focus on agricultural investment and attract foreign investment in the livestock and fisheries sectors. They further recommended incorporating aquaculture into the broader livestock production program associated with the project.
The meeting highlighted the importance of strengthening the basic infrastructure supporting the livestock sector, with particular emphasis on transportation and logistics for livestock exports.
The sector underscored the need to increase livestock production, enhance value-added processing, and encourage partnerships with both domestic and foreign private-sector investors in livestock production, the modernization and development of quarantine facilities, and livestock marketing.
Officials noted that these measures are expected to contribute to expanding Sudan’s export capacity, improving competitiveness in international markets, and supporting broader economic recovery and development efforts.
