Democratic Block Disagrees Over Who to Attend Addis Meetings

Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The spokesperson for the Democratic Bloc, Mohamed Zakaria Farajallah, on Sunday said the statement attributed to the bloc concerning the indirect meetings taking place in Addis Ababa with the “Quintet Mechanism” – comprised of the African Union, the United Nations, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the European Union, and the League of Arab States – does not reflect the bloc’s consensus and was not issued with the agreement of all its members or through the completion of the established institutional procedures.
Farajallah confirmed, in a brief statement , that the official position of the Democratic Bloc will be issued in a subsequent statement following a meeting of its relevant bodies to discuss and collectively decide.
Earlier on Sunday, the spokesperson for the Democratic Bloc, Jumaa Al-Wakil, announced that the bloc did not participate in the meeting held in Addis Ababa, did not send any delegation to represent it, and did not issue any declaration, mandate, or authorization to any party or individual to represent it in those consultations. The representative added: “There was no prior coordination with the institutions or leadership of the Democratic Bloc regarding this meeting, nor were its agenda or arrangements presented to them.”
The representative indicated that the participation of individuals belonging to some components of the Democratic Bloc—if true—was in their personal or organizational capacities and does not in any way reflect the official position of the Bloc or its institutions.

The Bloc called for observing accuracy and seeking credibility in obtaining official statements, out of respect for public opinion and in accordance with the requirements of responsible political action.
