Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon

The Acting Governor of Darfur, Mustafa Tambour, chaired an expanded meeting on Sunday that brought all governors of Darfur states.

The meeting has discussed humanitarian and security issues, most notably the situation in Al Fashir and the formation of a combat force to participate in ending the siege imposed on the city for nearly two years now.

The meeting emphasized the need for urgent coordination between the governments of the five Darfur states and the mechanism assigned by the governor to protect civilians in the city.

The meeting also reviewed measures for assisting the work of “Takaya or community kitchens” and relief initiatives with contributions from the states and national charitable organizations.

It was also agreed to unify popular resistance efforts in the region with the participation of representatives from all states, and to intensify training and rehabilitation programs for youth with the aim of recapturing localities and states controlled by militias.

The meeting also discussed the formation of a unified combat force from the five Darfur states to participate in the advance toward Al Fashir. It further emphasized the need for holding regular meetings bringing together the Governor, governors, the Secretary-General, and all relevant authorities to discuss improving the performance of the regional government and addressing standing challenges.

Tambour has underlined the regional government’s commitment to lifting the siege on Al Fashir and securing North Darfur State and the entire region so that citizens can enjoy security and stability.
