Committee for Preventing Illegal Toll Collection Inspects Port Sudan-Suakin Road Points
Sudanhorizon – Follow-ups
The Technical Committee for Preventing Illegal Toll Collection, headed by Counsel Muhammad Haj Adam Hassan Al-Tahir, and its members, on Saturday inspected the toll collection points on the national highway from Port Sudan to Suakin
Counsel Muhammad Haj Adam explained that the committee visited all the toll collection points along the national highway, including Suakin, and observed the collection procedures firsthand. They recorded the necessary observations and issued immediate directives to address the issues raised.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Justice, Haj Adam indicated that the committee also inspected the truck weighbridge in Suakin. They received several complaints from truck owners regarding the slow processing times due to the large number of vehicles, as well as the limited space of the weighbridge, which negatively impacts traffic flow on the national highway.
He added that one of the most important directives issued by the committee was the need to provide vehicle owners with complete information related to the weighing process, including the vehicle’s weight and the value of any applicable fines.
The committee chairman noted some issues with the calibration of the weighbridge and stated that a meeting with the relevant department was necessary to address the calibration, ensuring its accuracy, preserving state resources, and safeguarding the rights of vehicle owners.
He urged vehicle owners and all users of the national highway to pay their due fees and to ensure they receive a receipt, whether electronic or a paper Form 15. He explained that the receipt serves as proof of payment, protects citizens’ rights, and contributes to safeguarding the state’s financial resources.
