Civil Aviation Authority Announces Reopening of Khartoum Airport

Sudanhorizon – Khartoum
The management of Khartoum International Airport announced on Wednesday the official resumption of operations after a civilian aircraft belonging to Badr Airlines landed at the airport, marking the return of civil aviation activity from the Sudanese capital after a suspension of more than two years due to the war.
The reopening comes despite drone attacks launched over the past two days by the Rapid Support Forces militia, in an apparent attempt to disrupt the airport’s return to operation.
In a press statement published on its official page, the airport administration said:
> “A Badr Airlines aircraft landed a short while ago at Khartoum International Airport, officially inaugurating the airport and marking the resumption of air traffic from the capital.”
The statement described the event as “an important step in the recovery of Sudan’s aviation sector and the gradual return of air travel.”
Khartoum Airport had suffered extensive destruction after falling within the combat zone between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, who seized control of it on the first day of the war in April 2023.
Following the army’s full recapture of Khartoum State, authorities launched comprehensive maintenance and rehabilitation efforts at the airport as part of the government’s broader plan to restore normal life in the capital and prepare conditions for the return of citizens.
