Children and Women Killed in Militia Drone Attacks against Civilian Facilities in South Kordofan

The Sudanese Doctors Network reported on Thursday that nine people, including four children and two women, were killed and seven others injured in a targeted attack by suicide drones, which the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) denied carrying out. The attack targeted a kindergarten and several civilian facilities in the city of Kologi, South Kordofan State.

In a statement, the network described the shelling as “a serious violation of international humanitarian law and a continuation of the targeting of civilians and vital infrastructure.”

It emphasized that attacks on densely populated areas exacerbate the suffering of civilians and increase the burden on medical personnel and the health sector, which is already stretched due to the ongoing conflict.

The statement held the RSF leadership fully responsible for the incident and called on the United Nations, human rights organizations, and humanitarian agencies to take practical steps to prevent attacks on civilians, support humanitarian and relief efforts in the region, and pressure the RSF and SPLM-N leadership to cease targeting civilian facilities, schools, and market places.

The SPLA-M and its allied Rapid Support Forces militia have continued for days to bombard the cities of Kadugli and Dilling, using heavy artillery and drones that targeted civilian institutions and shelters for displaced people, resulting in civilian casualties. The two forces have also deployed military reinforcements in an attempt to carry out a double attack targeting the main cities in South Kordofan State.
