Member of the Sovereignty Council and Assistant Commander-in-Chief, Ibrahim Jaber Ibrahim, affirmed the government’s support and encouragement for the country’s industrial sector to recover, return to production, achieve economic development and financial inclusion, and build foreign currency reserves.

On Thursday, Jaber toured several factories in Khartoum and Gezira states, including Sharq Cables, Mega Soft Drinks Factory, Al-Asaad Industrial Group, Afro King Oils and Lubricants Factory, and Al-Abalej Oils Factory. He was accompanied by Minister of Industry and Trade, Mahasin Ali Yaqoub, and Khartoum State Governor, Ahmed Othman Hamza.

Jaber stressed the importance of these factories covering the local market and halting the drain on government resources caused by importing foodstuffs and consumables from abroad throughout the war period.

He noted that workers in these factories represent Sudan’s true capital, explaining that the inspection visit aimed to assess the factories’ capacity to absorb the labor force now returning to Khartoum.

The Council member called on businessmen and factory owners to accelerate the reopening of all industrial sector institutions and expand employment opportunities. He praised factory and shop owners who reopened immediately after the defeat of the rebel militia.

For her part, Minister of Industry and Trade Mahasin Ali Yaqoub stated that the operation of these factories represents the practical beginning of Sudan’s industrial recovery to meet domestic needs for food and other products. She added that her ministry will work to revitalize the industrial sector, ensure its sustainability, replace imports with local production, and guarantee the availability of job opportunities for different segments of Sudanese society.
