Burhan Says Khartoum State Teachers Should Receive Five Months’ Back Pay

The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, on Thursday directed the formation of a high-level committee to support education and to develop solutions and proposals to improve the educational environment in the country. He also issued a directive to disburse the outstanding salaries of teachers in Khartoum State.
This came during his attendance at the Khartoum meeting of state education ministers, organized by the Federal Ministry of Education.
The Minister of Education, Al-Tuhami al-Zein Hajar, stated that the meeting aimed to formulate visions and ideas for developing education in Sudan. He explained that the Chairman’s presence and participation in the meeting provided an opportunity to brief him on the state of education, which has been damaged through systematice targeting and destruction by the militias for schools and educational institutions. He added that the meeting also served to review the challenges facing the sector in all states.
Al-Tuhami noted that the Chairman of the Sovereign Council directed the disbursement of five months’ back pay to teachers in Khartoum State. He also directed the maintenance of the Ministry of Education’s printing press to resume printing textbooks.
The Minister emphasized that the Chairman’s participation in the Education Ministers’ Forum reflects the government commitment to improving the educational process by creating a suitable environment for students to achieve the required academic success.
