Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
The Democratic Bloc has urged Sudanese political and societal forces to develop a roadmap for a solution based on national will.
The head of the Democratic Bloc’s political committee, Minni Arko Minawi, said in a press statement issued late Tuesday night, that the Democratic Bloc held its second session that focused on the current political challenges facing the Sudan as an addendum to the Political Committee meeting.
‘’We salute the steadfastness of the cities of Al Fashir, Babanusa, Kadugli, and Dilling under the current circumstances. We also condemn the unjust siege imposed by the Rapid Support Forces militia around Al Fashir, which has continued for more than a year, preventing the arrival of food, medicine, and basic necessities.”
Following the meeting attended by the heads of the parties and movements that compose the Democratic Bloc in Port Sudan, Minawi added that they have expressed their condemnation of the international silence regarding the violations of these militias, their rejection of the truce proposed by the UN Secretary-General, and their failure to adhere to UN Security Council Resolution 2736 of June 13, 2024.
He added, “The meeting affirms that negative international interference in Sudanese affairs has contributed to the outbreak of war. It also highlights the importance of Sudanese political and societal forces developing a roadmap for a solution based on pure national will, fulfilling the aspirations and hopes of the Sudanese people.”
He pointed to the need to correctly define the conflict as a rebellion by the Rapid Support Forces militia against the Sudanese state.
He welcomed the US Secretary of State’s statement on Sudan and praised the efforts exerted by Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United States towards resolving the Sudanese crisis.
The Democratic Bloc affirmed its firm position that the UAE could not be involved as a mediator or to play any role in achieving peace in Sudan.
The bloc reiterated its support for the role of neighboring countries that have stood by the Sudanese people, praising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Eritrea for their clear support for the Sudanese people in their quest for the unity and sovereignty of the Sudanese state.
