Arrangements for Introducing the Malaria Vaccine in all Sudanese States

The Federal Ministry of Health announced arrangements to introduce the malaria vaccine in all states of the country soon, following the successful introduction of the vaccine in Gedaref State and Blue Nile Region.

Ismail Al-Adani, Director of the Expanded Program on Immunization, said during the opening session of a workshop to present the results and recommendations of the study on the determinants of demand for the malaria vaccine in Gedaref State and Blue Nile Region, the first round. The workshop was organized by the General Administration of Primary Health Care (Health Promotion Department, Expanded Program on Immunization, and the National Malaria Control Program, in cooperation with the Eastern Mediterranean Network for Community Health) today, on Saturday. He stated that the partnership, coordination, and harmony between Immunization, the Health Promotion Department, and the National Malaria Control Program contributed to increased demand for the vaccine, and that “collective intelligence has yielded tangible results.”

Dr. Al-Fatih Malik pointed out that the previous period contributed to the results and recommendations following the vaccination campaign in Gedaref and Blue Nile. This, in turn, will help encourage citizens to receive the vaccine in other states, thus increasing demand. He emphasized that the high rate of malaria led to the introduction of the vaccine, noting that nine countries preceded Sudan in introducing it.

For her part, the Director of Health Promotion, Todud Abdullah Al-Khidr, indicated that the study and research will benefit interventions and develop strategies, in preparation for the second round, which will include the remaining states.
