Al-Burhan to German Envoy: the Armed Forces Have No Interest in Politics

Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, has informed the German Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa, Heiko Nitzschke, that the armed forces have no desire to remain in power or engage in political activities.
The meeting, which took place in Port Sudan on Thursday, reviewed the latest developments in the country and various current political issues. It also addressed the Sudanese government’s efforts to achieve peace, facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need, and advance the ongoing efforts to conduct an inclusive Sudanese dialogue and form a technocratic government to prepare the country for elections. These efforts are part of the government’s recently announced roadmap.
A press statement issued by the media office of the Transitional Sovereignty Council quoted Al-Burhan as stating that “the armed forces are working to create the necessary conditions for an elected civilian government to take power in the country,” reaffirming that the military has no intention of engaging in political affairs.
For his part, the German Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa indicated that Germany is ready to support Sudan’s reconstruction efforts and collaborate with international partners in post-war rebuilding and development.
The German envoy began his visit to Sudan two days ago. During this time, he met with several government officials and international organisations working in the humanitarian field.
