Al-Burhan: The Word and the Arts Represent a Fundamental Front in Defending the State
Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, praised the pioneering role of artists, creatives, drama professionals, and journalists in supporting what he described as the “Battle of Dignity”, affirming that art and the written word constitute a fundamental front in defending the very fabric of the state.
This came during his address yesterday (Thursday) at the “Communicating with Creatives” programme, organised as part of efforts to address the impacts of the war, at the Global Space Centre for Culture and Media. The event was attended by the Director-General of the General Intelligence Service, Lieutenant General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal, and Lieutenant General Mirghani Idris, Director-General of the Defence Industries System.
Al-Burhan called on all creatives to assume their national role during the current phase by promoting a culture of peace and working earnestly to reject regionalism and racism. He noted that the “Battle of Dignity” had demonstrated the unity of the Sudanese people and their cohesion behind the armed forces, adding:
“Soon, the entire territory of Sudan will be liberated. We aspire to a future in which no one carries weapons. We must resolve our issues internally—Sudan is rich in its people, heritage, and culture.”
The Chairman of the Sovereignty Council expressed his appreciation for the positive position of the Sudanese people and their steadfast support for the armed forces, reaffirming his commitment to supporting creatives and providing the necessary backing to establish and develop artistic and cultural institutions as beacons of awareness and nation-building.
He also urged journalists to rise above peripheral disputes and focus on national issues, stressing the importance of accuracy, avoiding the spread of unverified information, and relying on official and credible sources. He emphasised the pivotal role of the press in raising awareness and combating hate speech and regional divisions.
Al-Burhan further noted that Sudan is passing through difficult circumstances due to attempts by adversaries to undermine the country’s unity and cohesion, affirming that the awareness and vigilance of the Sudanese people will thwart such schemes aimed at destabilising the nation and undermining its sovereignty.
