Al-Burhan Instructs the Sovereignty Council to Supervise Border Crossings
Port Sudan – Sudan Horizon
The Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has instructed the Council to take charge of overseeing the country’s border crossings.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and received by the Sudanhorizon news website, the council said: “To facilitate procedures at the border crossings, and ensure the smooth flow of trade and expedite the clearance of goods, Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has directed that the Sovereignty Council will now oversee the management of border crossings.”
According to informed sources speaking to Sudanhorizon, the decision is intended to address issues at the border crossings, particularly those between Sudan and Egypt.
The challenges impeding the flow of trade and the movement of goods include high clearance costs, procedure delays, and the lack of unified government fees through a single window due to the involvement of multiple governmental units in imposing fees.
The sources did not rule out a connection between this directive and upcoming steps expected to ease the entry of humanitarian aid through land crossings into Sudan.
