A UNSC Session on Sudan on Wednesday

New York -Sudanhorizon
The UN Security Council is expected to hold a session on Sudan this Wednesday to hear the periodic briefing from the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) on developments and the on-going investigations in Darfur. This briefing is part of the semi-annual briefings submitted to the Council pursuant to Resolution 1593.

The Prosecutor’s report is expected to address the latest developments in the investigations into crimes committed in Darfur, the progress made by the Office of the Prosecutor in gathering evidence and linking violations to suspected leaders, as well as the challenges related to cooperation with the investigations and the execution of arrest warrants issued by the Court.
The Deputy Prosecutor of the ICC has recently stated that the investigations had witnessed a “significant breakthrough,” with additional evidence linking crimes committed in Darfur to leadership levels. She indicated that the Office expects to achieve results within a reasonable timeframe, without disclosing names or details regarding new arrest warrants.
