The Sudan Embassy in Austria, in cooperation with the Austrian Institute for European and Security Policy (AIES), organized a seminar at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna on Tuesday, titled “Sudan: Key to Africa’s Security – Humanitarian Catastrophe, Recovery, and Reconstruction.” The seminar aimed to highlight developments in Sudan and the challenges facing the recovery and reconstruction phase.

In his address, Ambassador Magdi Ahmed Mufaddal, Sudan’s Ambassador to Austria, reviewed the internal and external factors hindering the efforts of the Government of National Accord. He pointed to the severity of the humanitarian crisis resulting from the crimes of the rebel militias and its impact on stability.

He explained that the government’s return to the capital, Khartoum, was a result of the restoration of security after its liberation from the rebels and the efforts made to reactivate state institutions.

The Sudan News Agency reported that Ambassador Magdi urged the international community to intensify pressure on the rebels and their supporters, strengthen communication with Sudan, increase humanitarian aid, and support recovery and reconstruction efforts. He also highlighted the role Austria could play in this regard through the exchange of expertise, facilitating business operations, capacity building, and support for education and the agricultural sector.

The seminar was presented by Ambassador Dr. Martin Eichtinger, Director of the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna, and moderated by Dr. Werner Fasslabend, former Austrian Minister of Defense and President of the Austrian Institute for European and Security Policy. In his remarks, Dr. Fasslabend emphasized that Sudan is a cornerstone of regional security in Africa and that its stability and unity are in the interest of regional and international security. He also pointed to real opportunities for strengthening Sudanese-Austrian cooperation.

The seminar was attended by a number of ambassadors, diplomats, researchers, and experts in European and security affairs, as well as representatives of the Sudanese community in Austria.
