5 Killed and 13 Injured in Militia Attack on Market in South Kordofan
Kadugli – Sudanhorizon
Five people were killed and 13 others injured as a result of an attack by drones belonging to the Rapid Support Forces militia targeting the “Kartala” area in South Kordofan State, according to the Sudan Doctors Network on Monday.
In a statement, the network said that a guided drone bombed the Kartala market in the Six Mountains area on Sunday morning.
It quoted its field team as confirming that all those killed and injured were civilians who were inside the market at the time of the drone strike.
The network strongly condemned the direct targeting of civilians and held the militia leadership fully responsible for the attack and its repercussions, describing it as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and the rules governing the protection of civilians.
It called on the international community, the United Nations, and human rights organizations to take urgent steps to protect civilians in conflict zones and to exert pressure on the Rapid Support Forces leadership to halt systematic attacks on markets and residential neighborhoods.
The network affirmed that it will continue monitoring the health situation and providing medical support to the injured, urging all parties to spare civilians and civilian facilities, and to work toward opening safe corridors to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to those affected, especially in areas besieged in South Kordofan State for more than two years.
